Heritage Hall Exhibit Now Open!

Drop by Town Hall to visit the Heritage Hall exhibit.

Based on the book, “A Town by Any Other Name,” by Leslie Rindoks, Heritage Hall provides a tangible overview of the Town’s history. Antiques, maps, reproductions of archival photographs and accompanying text help tell the Town’s story from the time of the Catawbas to the Town’s celebration of its Centennial in 2005.   Businesses such as R.J. Stough’s cotton gin and subsequent cotton mill, grocery stores and even a movie theatre are featured. Recalling area pastimes, such as fishing and baseball, are part of the exhibit, as is a tribute to the old town doctor, William Washam. In addition to artifacts and photographs, a 13-foot by 25-foot mural, by area artist Diane Araps, provides the background for the display. The tree at its center suggests the beloved “Tree of Knowledge” that once stood at the corner of Catawba and Highway 115, across the street from the current Town Hall.

Town Hall is located at 21445 Catawba Avenue and is open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

This project is supported, in part, with a Project Grant from the Arts & Science Council.
