Step It Up!  is a summer fitness program for rising 4th grade students and Faculty at J.V. Washam Elementary.  The program promotes health and wellness through fitness.

The criteria for entry include: 

 - Commit to wearing your pedometer everyday for 12 weeks during the summer break
 - Show enthusiasm for fitness
 - Enter amount of steps walked into the data collection form each day and  have parents sign. Turn forms into into Mr. Higgins by September 8th. 

Step It Up! will:

 - Provide leadership development through education on healthy lifestyles to youth
 - Create awareness in the community of the importance of healthy lifestyle choices as a key ingredient of leadership development for youth
 - Improve the health and well being of your entire family

The goals of the Step It Up! program include:

 - Educate youth on healthy lifestyle behaviors
 - Provide leadership development
 - Provide educational materials on various health topics to youth and parents
 - Reward youth for participation in Step It Up!
 - Walk 10,000 steps a minimum of 50 out of the 75 days of summer break and be entered into a drawing for great fitness-related prizes!
